Last year when I was vacationing in Newport, I stumbled upon a poem that was posted on the outside window of one of the shops I was browsing. I took a picture and sort of forgot about it until today when I was looking through all the photos on my computer. This poem resonated deeply with me because despite the king size bed we all share, it seems like we are always sleeping squished together, barely able to move. Charlie likes to cuddle by my tummy, Lisa sleeps next to me on my pillow and Maddie wrapped around my feet. And each and every morning, the second we turn over or make a sound, they are all awake, ready to go and start their day, with Maddie licking us awake. And despite all this silliness, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I hope you guys enjoy!
A Happy Dog’s Bedtime Prayer
Author Unknown
Now I lay me down to sleep,
The king-size bed is soft and deep.
I sleep right in the center groove
My human being can hardly move!
I’ve trapped her legs, she’s tucked in tight
And here is where I pass the night
No one disturbs me or dares intrude
Till morning comes and I want food!
I sneak up slowly to begin
my nibbles on my human’s chin.
She wakes up slowly and smiles and shouts,
“You darling beast! Just cut it out!”
But morning’s here and it’s time to play,
I always seem to get my way.
So thank you Lord for giving me
This human person that I see.
The one who hugs and holds me tight
And shares her bed with me at night!
Adorable 🙂

So true! Once, Lexi made the comment in her blog: “I don’t know why we have a queen size bed when all three of us together [Lexi, Mom, Dad] take up one foot of space.”

Sooo true! We switched from a queen to a king about 6 months ago and besides the fact that the dogs have more room to stretch out once a while, haven’t really noticed much different in available space 🙂

The king bed is the only way to go and even with that I still get squished into weird shapes with three dogs and two cats sharing the space.
